Mysterio is a fictional super-villain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The first and most-high profile incarnation of Mysterio is Quentin Beck, although this super-villain identity have been taken by three different people. The original Mysterio (Quentin Beck) was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Quentin Beck, an actor and special effects artist who was turned away from a good movie gig, decided to prove himself by becoming a phony vigilante and take down Spider-Man. Donning the role of Mysterio, the Master of Illusion, Beck went to the Daily Bugle newspaper and announced that he would bring the hated Spider-Man to his knees.
The newspaper editor, J. Jonah Jameson, who hated Spider-Man with a passion, agreed wholeheartedly, and supported Beck’s stunt. Mysterio soon battled Spider-Man, ultimately defeating and humiliating him through use of his many tricks and special effects. He was dubbed a hero before Spider-Man fought him again and exposed his real intentions.
Later, he also joined force with Doctor Octopus’s super-villain team, the Sinister Six. In 2009, Mysterio was ranked as IGN’s 85th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time. Personally, he is my favorite Spider-Man villain.
